Kremlin Press Secretary Zakharova accused American social networks of encouraging nationalism in Ukraine

The US digital platforms are directly responsible for the promotion of nationalism in Ukraine, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, commenting on the statements of the company Meta.

“Xenophobia knows no borders. Internet xenophobia is even more so. For many years nationalism was nurtured in Ukraine and encouraged by the West. […] It is time to draw conclusions and use all resources, first of all informational, to stop incitement of hatred. U.S. digital platforms are directly responsible for encouraging nationalism in Ukraine,” she wrote in her Telegram channel.

On the eve of the day, Roskomnadzor announced on the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office that Instagram would soon be restricted after the management of Meta Platforms temporarily lifted the ban on calls for violence against the Russian military on this social network, as well as on Facebook. The Investigative Committee saw signs of extremism and promotion of terrorism in this, a criminal case was initiated under two articles.

The company later clarified that this was a “temporary measure” that would only apply to the territory of Ukraine.
