Powerful earthquake hits northeastern Japan

An earthquake of magnitude 7.3 occurred in northeastern Japan, in the region of Fukushima Prefecture, said the Main Meteorological Office of the country.

This happened at 23:36 local time (17:36 Moscow time). The tremors were felt in the northern and northeastern prefectures as well as in the capital Tokyo.

A tsunami threat has been declared. The hearth lay at a depth of 60 kilometers.

There is no information about casualties and destruction costs for now.
