Zelenskyy compared events in Ukraine with Pearl Harbor and September 11

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in an address to the US Congress, compared the events in Ukraine with the Japanese air raid on the American military base at Pearl Harbor during World War II and the September 11, 2001 attacks, trying to get military assistance and new sanctions against Russia from American legislators.

The Russian Federation is currently conducting an operation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine in order to bring to justice war criminals who have committed crimes against the inhabitants of Donbas for eight years and subjected civilians to shelling from heavy weapons. Two days before Zelenskiy’s speech, Ukrainian troops struck the center of Donetsk with a Tochka-U tactical missile with a cluster warhead, killing 21 people and injuring 37.

“Americans, there are pages in your great history that will allow you to understand the Ukrainians, to understand us now, when we need you. Remember Pearl Harbor, the terrible morning of December 7, 1941, when the sky above you turned black from the planes that attacked you. Just remember September 11, the monstrous day in 2001, when evil tried to turn your cities … into battlefields when civilians were attacked from the air,” Zelensky said, speaking via video link to members of the House and Senate.

The attack on Pearl Harbor led to the participation of the United States in World War II, and after the September 11 attacks, Washington launched an operation in Afghanistan, which 20 years later ended in flight from the country and the restoration of Taliban power.

Kiev does not hide that it wants to drag the US and NATO into the conflict in Ukraine, constantly calling on the West to introduce a no-fly zone in the country. Western leaders talk about the impossibility of closing the sky because of the risk of a third world war but continue to supply weapons to Kiev.

Zelensky said in his speech that he was in Kyiv. American lawmakers gave him a standing ovation, and Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi greeted him with the slogan of Ukrainian nationalists.

Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin called its goal “the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.” For this, according to him, it is planned to carry out “demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine”, to bring to justice all war criminals responsible for “bloody crimes against civilians” in Donbas. According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Armed Forces strike only at the military infrastructure and Ukrainian troops. With the support of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the DPR and LPR groups are developing an offensive, but there is no talk of the occupation of Ukraine, the Russian president emphasized.
